IOC Allows China To Censor Websites

China is supposed to provide unfettered web access for journalists during the Olympic Games, but the International Olympic Committee admitted today that some of its officials have negotiated a deal with China allowing it to block certain websites that are critical of the country such as those of Amnesty International and the Falun Gong, Reuters reported.

"I regret that it now appears BOCOG [Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad] has announced that there will be limitations on website access during Games time.  I also now understand that some IOC officials negotiated with the Chinese that some sensitive sites would be blocked on the basis they were not considered Games related," IOC press chief Kevan Gosper said.

In other words, China, and now some IOC officials, is telling journalists to just stick to the Games.
