Not only did David Hayes caught a fish with his granddaughter Alyssa's Barbie fishing pole, it was record-breaking one as well, weighing in at 21 pounds and 1 ounce.
David and Alyssa were out fishing at the pond behind his house when she handed over her fishing pole to her grandfather so she could go potty. Not long after, David was fighting to hold onto the pole.
"The fish hit the cricket, and the fight was on, pretty much. I didn't think I could hold that fish with a 2-foot rod," David told WTVD.
After struggling with the giant catfish for 25 minutes, it finally ran out of energy and David scooped the fish out with a net.
It turned out that catfish was the biggest one ever recorded in the state of North Carolina.
As to the fate of the fish, it is in David's freezer waiting to be mounted along with pink fishing pole that caught it.
