Last Thursday, Warner Bros announced that they were shuttering their specialty divisions, Warner Independent Pictures and Picturehouse, because of pressure to cut cost by their parent Time Warner.
Today, LA Times' Patrick Goldstein wrote a piece saying that WB never truly understood the indie business in the first place. In the article, he said WB didn't have the patience to nurture an indie film to success nor did they give their specialty divisions enough autonomy. However, WB's president Alan Horn begged to differ.
