Iraq Will Go To Beijing

It looks like the International Olympic Committee and Iraq worked something out and two of its athletes will be going to Beijing to participate in the Olympic Games after all.

The IOC's charter forbids a country's government from interfering in its Olympic committee. When Iraq disbanded its committee early this year and set up a new one, the IOC saw that action as a violation of its charter and they tried to work it out with the Iraqi government to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the two sides failed to come to an agreement before the deadline to submit athletes to most of the events Iraq wanted to compete in passed.

However, Iraq will be able to send two of their athletes to compete in track and field as that deadline is July 31.
